Mercedes‑AMG GmbH has recorded numerous successes in motorsport and through the development of unique road-going vehicles, thereby repeatedly proving its position as a highly successful sports car and high-performance brand – and today this is truer than ever.
Affalterbach is home to AMG’s management, administration, sales, development and design teams as well as AMG hand-crafted engine building. This is where AMG V8 engines and AMG 4-cylinder/in-line engines are produced. Each engine is hand-assembled by a single engine builder in accordance with the "one man, one engine" philosophy and bears a hand-signed plaque from him.
Today the management of Mercedes‑AMG GmbH is comprised by the members Michael Schiebe (Chairman of the board), Michael Eisenmann and Dr. Andreas Hertweck.
Chairman of the board
Michael Schiebe
Michael Schiebe has been with the company since 2004. Still at Daimler AG at that time, he started his career in the area of Strategic Product Projects, then moved to Controlling and later to Marketing and Sales. Among other things, he also served as President & CEO of Mercedes-Benz Luxembourg S.A. and was subsequently responsible for Mercedes-Benz Passenger Car Sales in Germany. From 2020 to 2023, he reported to Ola Källenius as Chief of Staff and Head of Corporate Office Mercedes-Benz Group AG. Since March 2023, Michael has been CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH and Head of the Top End Vehicle (TEV) Group.
Chief Financial Officer
Michael Eisenmann
Prior to his function as CFO for Mercedes-AMG GmbH, Michael Eisenmann was Head of Financial Performance & Reporting. After holding various positions in project and group controlling, he took over the controlling department at Mercedes-Benz China in 2008. In 2011, Michael took on the CFO function at Mercedes-Benz Taiwan, before assuming the assistant function for the CFO of Daimler AG in 2014. Subsequently, from 2016, he headed Controlling & Reporting at Daimler Trucks and in 2017 took over as Head of Mercedes-Benz Sales Controlling & Cross Functions.

Dr. Andreas Hertweck has been with the Mercedes-Benz Group for over 20 years in various management positions in strategy, purchasing and human resources.

History
Preeminence requires technical genius - and a great vision
Hans-Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher laid the foundation for AMG in 1967, their minds set on racing success. They teamed up to optimize engine performance and became involved in motorsport. They were soon pitting themselves against strong and established racing teams. And in 1971, they won the legendary “24 Hours of Spa” race with the AMG 300 SEL 6.8 in its class. This made the letters A, M and G well-known around the world. A: the visionary Aufrecht, who continually drove the company forward. M: the technical genius Melcher, who found solutions for even the most complex challenges. G: Großaspach, the place where Hans Werner Aufrecht was born. It is the founders’ courage and determination in their unrelenting quest to achieve the seemingly impossible that shape the spirit of AMG to this day.

Supreme performance does not come about by chance. It arises when engineering prowess is coupled with that very special attitude that is the spirit of AMG. We believe that you need to keep pushing up against the boundaries in order to reach new goals. We accept nothing as given. It is people who create frontiers, and it is people who can overcome them. We apply this principle to conjure up automotive performance for motorsport – and for the road. We call this “Driving Performance”.

Our quest to continually challenge the status quo in pursuit of new goals is evident in our holistic approach to vehicle development: Our work begins right from the planning stage for the vehicle architecture of a new Mercedes-Benz model. In this way we ensure that AMG’s requirements are already taken into consideration in the development of the series production vehicles. This is without parallel in the performance vehicles market. Every Mercedes-AMG is developed and built in its entirety in Affalterbach. The perfect matching and coordination of all components gives rise to a vehicle that is not only a delight to drive on the road, but is also able to assert itself on the race track. Its superior technologies enable an intensive driving experience that is to the target group’s taste.
Nearly one third of our more than 2,400 employees work in the development area, contributing the core competencies that make our exceptional performance possible. On the basis of this expertise, we develop vehicles with a very special DNA: the AMG DNA. Our spirit unfolds in the four dimensions of our vehicle development process: drive systems, driving dynamics, sound and design.
Drive Systems
Power must be released - on the street
The engine forms the core of the AMG drive system. But it takes the precise interplay between clutch, transmission, drive shaft and differential – the entire drivetrain – to apply the engine’s power to the road. Which gives rise to the question: how directly can acceleration be felt? With a Mercedes-AMG, it is a tangible physical experience: direct, powerful, impressive. Courtesy of the unique AMG Performance drives. From a 4-cylinder through a V6 and V8 to a V12. They all stand for dynamic response and high agility, combined with superlative performance and maximum efficiency.
Driving Dynamics
When the street is your favorite place
Customarily, roads are for getting from A to B. For performance enthusiasts, roads are much more than this. They see every bend as an invitation. They are active and fully aware at the wheel. They love to unleash their vehicle’s power on the asphalt while steering it with precision. Driving dynamics is an expression of their personality.
Unleashing the passion, controlling the power: a Mercedes-AMG applies this principle to transform power into driving dynamics. All chassis systems are perfectly coordinated to this end. Innovative AMG technology provides for the right balance between dynamism and control: the in-house developed AMG Performance 4MATIC and 4MATIC+ all-wheel drives, for example, the intelligent AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension, the variable speed-sensitive sports steering, the AMG high-performance brake system and optimized aerodynamics.
The broad spectrum of AMG technologies serves a single aim here: to instill that special feeling that we are in control of every bend, and not vice versa.

That's why every Mercedes-AMG features that signature acoustic branding, delivered inside the cabin by the immersive AMG Real Performance Sound, and outside by the adaptive sound profiles of the adjustable exhaust flaps. A Mercedes-AMG ensures every drive is accompanied by the perfect soundscape, a true symphony for everyone who’s passionate about performance.
Design
Form follows speed
A Mercedes-AMG on the road is design in motion. To drive a Mercedes-AMG is to make an aesthetic statement. At the same time, design is never an end in itself. Rather, it is a matter of the perfect symbiosis of form and function: the bold and distinctive design idiom ensures that every Mercedes-AMG is immediately recognizable as an uncompromising embodiment of performance. Hallmark radiator grilles and large air intakes lend a Mercedes-AMG vehicle its characteristic face. Striking side sill panels visualize the motorsport genes, while the rear wing and up to four tailpipes round off the signature looks in impressive style.
